Drew Barrymore Quote

Growing up wasn’t easy for Drew Barrymore. Granted, she was from a wealthy and famous family, but that brought about its own issues for the child star. Like other Hollywood families, hers had its share of the genetic disease of addiction. Barrymore became famous in her own right as a central cast member of E.T., when she was very young and growing up in the spotlight, she was already making the news for drug abuse by her early teens.

The social pressures from gossip magazines put a focus on not only Drew’s addiction and substance abuse, but also on her changing weight. Sometimes, she appeared heavier and sometimes thinner, but one thing that hardly ever changed was her signature smile. At the end of the day, it seemed that America was fascinated by the actress in her ups and downs, but there seemed to never be any ill-will toward her. Still, she struggled with depression and was in and out of rehab while most kids her age were working on trying to earn a high school diploma. And while other child stars succumb to addiction and few find a terrible fate of overdose and death, Barrymore remains a living legend- someone who was able to fight off her demons and reform. She dated other celebrities, and for a moment, was married to MTV funnyman, Tom Greene, at the height of his career in the late 1990’s.

Through it all, she made several comebacks and forged her own path, to lead a life in recovery. Despite all the criticism and scrutiny she faced, Barrymore learned something from it all, “I think that being happy makes the biggest impact on your physical appearance.”

Today, she has her own makeup company called Flower and even their tag phrase is “love the way you look.”

Having a healthy self-image and a healthy sense of ego is extremely important in taking charge of your own life. You have to first believe that you are worth something, before you can put in the effort to take care of yourself. Many people abuse drugs because they have low self-esteem. This is something that is a result of problematic thinking and can be resolved through self-reflection, self-help, or more often, with therapy. The important thing to realize is that you only live once and life can be much better if you learn to love yourself and what makes you you, rather than cursing who you are. After all, you’re stuck with yourself until the end– better to find and highlight the things you like about yourself. Additionally, that healthy sense of self can influence your confidence and performance in daily activities.

Furthermore, confidence and comfort show. People who have a healthy self image can appear more attractive and desirable to others, which brings us back to Drew Barrymore’s quote.

Drew Barrymore has always done her– not conforming to society’s standards, while remaining a decent, honest, and outspoken person, and we’ve always loved her for it. We hope she continues to thrive for years to come and that others take away some tips from her positive messages about loving the way you look and the way you are, no matter what other people’s standards may be.
